The photo on the left shows this woman’s body when she was experiencing back pain.
The white lines were drawn in-between both ankles to see how her body stacked up.
In the left photo you can see that her pelvis, spine, and upper body veer off to the right; as well as her right shoulder is lower.
This veering to the side and shoulder imbalance is going to compress the discs and impinge nerves on one side of the back as well as force the muscles on one side to work harder.
If she were to zoom in and get an X-ray or MRI, most likely disc degeneration, disc bulges, pinched nerves and so on would show up.
These findings would then be deemed as the CAUSE of her pain and the hunt for back experts, back exercises, pain relief products, and surgery would begin.
Unfortunately, the area in pain tends to become the “fall guy” as the greater problem often goes undetected.
X-rays and MRI’s can absolutely be useful, but they seldom tell the full story about what’s going on and why.
With a few simple assessments and photos, it was very clear that her right side and left side were not working the same.
The photo on the right shows what happened doing our movement routines that restore balance.
You can see her spine is closer towards the center and her shoulders are more level.
How do you think her back felt in the right photo compared to the left photo?
The main takeaway that I want you to get from this post is that it’s nearly impossible to solve a problem until you know why it’s there.
If you’re not assessing, you’re guessing.
This is why before anyone can join our Online Movement Program, they must start with The Pain Assessment Toolkit.
Through 6 specific assessments, you’ll learn how to take photos of your movement and analyze your body so you can understand the real problem you are dealing with.
